Grants, Garden and Drainage

Outside

Thanks to some ingenious solutions from Frank Morris and Smudge the drainage issues have been resolved.  The patio outside the meeting room has been laid and the basic landscaping on the top side of the hall is nearly ready to start planting a garden!  At the bottom end, the ground preparations have commenced on the foundations for the gazebo and other surfaces for the children’s playground.  When this is complete we can repair the wall with its new gate.

Inside

The accessible for all kitchen is nearing completion. ASTRA is extremely grateful to Milton Keynes Community Foundation who have funded this all inclusive, exciting kitchen with its rise and fall sink, worktop and hob.  Most of the woodwork is complete and work on the plumbing continues.  We are nearly ready to start buying the vital chairs, tables etc

Behind the scenes

Chris Barrington has worked doggedly to help ASTRA secure much needed funding and thanks to his efforts we have just received the fantastic news that The Lottery have awarded us a sizable grant which will enable us to pay off some of the debts and loans. We can not thank The Lottery enough for this funding at such a crucial point in the project.  We are so nearly there!

Fundraising

ASTRA would also like to thank everybody who runs or gets involved in any of the fundraising initiatives.  The ‘Christmas Virtual Raffle’ raised £650.  Ann Sidgwick is steaming along nicely with her innovative ‘Reversed Raffle’.  Chris French is still administering ‘Sponsor a Slate’.  By the time you read this Kim and Russell Gallacher plus Ian  McColl will have pulled off a ‘Virtual Burns Night’.  Sue Willis is still aiming to host the postponed  ‘Flea Market’ just after Easter (COVID restrictions permitting).

Administration

The New Hall Community Hall Committee is almost in place, ready to undertake the smooth running of this wonderful new facility as soon as it can.
Finally a heartfelt vote of thanks to the increasing number of commercial sponsors, patrons and guardians who continue to support ASTRA.

Thank you

Despite the restrictions that COVID has put upon the build, progress has continued at the hall albeit one trade at a time.
